How much do you charge for your work?

We offer many different services — from designing corporate identity packages, to creating multi-image photo compositions, to designing magazine ads — so in answer to this question it’s not possible to provide a single overall fee. However, our fees are comparable to those charged by other design agencies.

We work on a “differential” fee schedule, which means we charge a different fee for different aspects of a project.

For example, we charge less for doing research on the internet than we do for compositing five different digital photographs into a single, dynamic image using Adobe Photoshop®.

Likewise, we charge less for creative writing or editing services than we do for creating an original illustration with Adobe Illustrator®.

In other words, clients pay less for work that requires little specialized skill or knowledge, and more for portions of a project that require us to use deeper, more unique skills, knowledge and experience.

At the beginning of your project, after we’ve gathered the pertinent information we need to truly understand what you expect to receive as a result of hiring us, we will give you an estimate of the total project fee, as well as an estimate of the time required to complete the project.

When your project is completed, we will present you with an Invoice for the total project fee, in which we break down each aspect of the project, noting the differential hourly rate for each, explaining what we did, and the total fee for that portion of the work.

If I find another design company that charges less, will you match their price?

No. We do not attempt to compete with other design and marketing agencies on price alone.

Marketing communications is a complex business composed of many elements. Among the most important of these are experience and talent. It can be very difficult to honestly compare these elements among agencies.

Another important factor is how well you, the client, are able to work with an agency, and vice versa. We have twenty-five years of experience in this field, which counts for a great deal. We have a reputation for really listening to our clients, stiving to understand as precisely as possible what their vision is for their project, and then working hard to bring that vision to fruition in a way that the product we produce will serve the client well for years to come.

Years of experience. The desire to give our clients exactly what they want. The ability to really listen to what they tell us. We don’t believe we need to discount these attributes.

Return to Questions

How soon can you start my project?

Our relationship with each of our clients is very important to us, and we strive to expeditiously meet their needs.

The schedule for beginning any project is always dependent upon an individual client’s critical time frame for completing the project and receiving deliverables, as well as our previous commitment to complete projects that are already in progress for other clients.

Naturally, given staffing levels at any given time, we are able to accept a limited number of projects into our project pipeline.

If we are unable to begin your project soon, we will provide you with our best estimate on a start date.

Return to Questions

How long will my project take to complete?

Because of the range of services we offer, and the variability of elements that comprise each of them individually, and in combination with one another, it is not possible to estimate the time to adequately complete a project until we have, through in-depth conversations with a client learned the particulars of their vision for their project, and then assess how we must deploy our skills and assets to produce a final product that fulfils that vision.

In other words, every project we undertake is unique, every client we work with has unique needs and desires. Therefore, each project requires an amount of time and resources that allows us to deliver a final product that gives the client the greatest value for the time and money they invest with us.

It is worth noting that, without exception, the more fully Latitude 28 Design and Marketing is able to understand a client’s vision for a project from the outset — before the first line is drawn or the first computer key is pressed — the less time will be required to complete the project: the more completely we will be able to gather together the tools and resources required to undertake a project, the fewer revisions and edits will be required during the design process, etc.

Back to the question: based on our years of experience, we will be able, at the outset, to give you a reasonable estimate of the time required to complete it.

It obviously takes less time to design a corporate logo and it does to create a comprehensive corporate identity and branding program.

Will I be involved in the design process?

Most certainly you will be involved as your project progresses.

Not only do we gather all the information and materials we need prior to starting to design your project, we keep you up-to-date regarding the progress we are making as the project proceeds.

We normally provide three design alternatives or options for your consideration. Reasonably early in the design process, we will send visual views of these options to you as Adobe PDF files; these views will illustrate the elements of your project in a variety of uses and settings that might be encountered in your use of the design in the future. We will also explain our rationale in making our design choices.

You are then free to review and analyze these alternatives and provide us with your comments and suggestions for changes you would like to see made. This process allows us to ensure that we are proceeding basically “on the right track” before getting too deeply into the design process, and reduces the potential for really radical changes having to be made later in the process. We thereby reduce project time and cost, and are more easily able to meet our project deadline.

Incorporating your suggestions and comments in the designs, we continue our design work. We will send you additional PDF files of updated designs as appropriate, thus keeping you informed and allowing you to periodically input your preferences into the design process.

There may be times when your preferences conflict a bit with what we, as professional marketers and designers, feel should be done with your project. When this occurs, we will consult with you and together we will find a mutually suitable solution to the problem.

Our goal throughout the design process is to meet your unique preferences and needs, and it is only by keeping you involved as a vital member of the design team that we can do so.

Will I be kept informed about progress while you are designing my project?

As we noted in the answer to the previous question, we gather all the pertinent information and materials we need prior to starting to design your project, and we keep you up-to-date regarding the progress we are making as the project proceeds.

Reasonably early in the design process, we will send you Adobe PDF® files with views of up to three design alternatives; these views will illustrate the elements of your project in a variety of ways your design might be expected to be used in the future. We will also explain our rationale in making our design choices.

You are then free to review and analyze these options and provide us with your comments and suggestions for edits and changes. We will incorporate your edits into our future work and will send you additional PDF files of updated designs as appropriate, thus keeping you informed and allowing you to periodically input your preferences into the design process.

Our goal throughout the design process is to fully meet your unique preferences and needs, and it is only by keeping you informed and involved as a vital member of the design team that we can do so.

Return to Questions

When my project is completed, will I own the design and final deliverables?

Yes. In hiring Latitude 28 Design and Marketing to undertake a design project for you or your company, you are asking us to use our skills and experience to produce a design that will fulfill a particular marketing or advertising need your firm may have.

When we agree to work with you, our understanding or our relationship is that we are a contractor, and that all the work we complete on your project is, upon final payment of our full Invoice amount, the property of you or your firm. At this point, we retain no rights to any part of the project.

We will retain archived digital copies of all the work we accomplish for you, but only for the purpose of later resurrecting the project for updating, reprinting, or other future uses by you or your firm. By doing so, we retain no right to use any portion of the work for our own uses, except when expressed, written permission to do so, obtained from you or your firm, is granted in advance.

Without such permission, we will neither sell any part of the work we do for you or your company, nor incorporate any elements of your work into designs we undertake for other clients.

We do retain the right, however, to use select portions of the work for our corporate portfolio, such as on this website, for the purpose of illustrating to potential clients the work we have done for clients in the past. In doing so, however, we will always provide clear attribution as to the source of the design or elements.

Return to Questions

May I show you designs I like so you can make my project look like them?

Because we always strive to better understand what you wish to achieve through your association with Latitude 28 Design and Marketing, we welcome any method we can mutually discover to make this happen.

One of these methods is for you to expose us to designs you find appealing, and for you to explain in as clearly as possible why you like them.

We can then be guided as we design your project by the deeper understanding of your vision you’ve given us. But, we will not simply duplicate or copy the designs of others.

We believe that every company should strive to establish an identity that is uniquely its own, one that distinctly sets it apart in the marketplace from its competitors. That is what we strive to help our clients accomplish. We can certainly incorporate elements and design principles from designs you like into the designs we produce, but we will not simply reproduce verbatim the design of another.

Return to Questions

What forms of payment do you accept?

Latitude 28 Design and Marketing accepts cash, bank transfer, or payments made through PayPal. We do not accept credit card payments.

On the majority of projects we require a downpayment equal to 50% of our estimated fee before we begin work. The balance is payable when we have completed your project and after you have indicated in writing that the project is acceptable to you.

In no case will we turn over original artwork until the full invoiced amount has been paid.

Payment details are covered in the written Agreement that both Latitude 28 Design and Marketing and an authorized representative of your firm will sign prior to commencement of design work,

Return to Questions

If my project needs to be printed, can you help me work with a commercial printer?

Over the past twenty-five years Latitude 28 Design and Marketing has worked with a great many commercial printers, and we are pleased to be able to either broker your printing needs or interface with a printer on your behalf.

Doing so, we may be able to lower your printing costs and ensure that your print work is done to accepted industry standards.

The final deliverables you receive at the end of our work will always be “print ready;” that is, any files that are slated to be printed will be given to you already “pre-pressed” to ensure the proper file resolution, correct CMYK color space, print control settings, etc. have been embedded in the file, and that all imported graphics are included; by doing so, we ensure that a commercial printer will have no problem printing from our files.

Generally, we request that our printers present us (and you) with a suitable proof prior to printing.

If you wish us to help you work with a commercial printer, we will negotiate a reasonable fee to do so.

Return to Questions

If my project is going to be posted to the Web, can you help me with that?

Although many of our client’s projects over the years have gone to commercial printers, these days an increasing number are designed to be posted on the Web...or both. Many projects are now designed to be both commercially printed as sales collateral, and to be incorporated into a company's website. These are considerations we will discuss with you prior to beginning work on your project.

If you want your project to be posted to the web but are unsure about how to do so yourself, we would be pleased to help you get your files ready to upload.

We can also help you obtain a domain name, find a modestly-priced web hosting service, establish email accounts, and set the whole thing up.

If you do not already have a web site, we would be pleased to quote a price to design one for you, and a separate price to manage and maintain the site, if you wish.
